More Recent Picture

halley_at_bloggercon_oct_2003.jpg

Liz posted an old picture of me on the bio page when my hair
was a lot shorter, but this is a more recent one which Elaine took of me.
Just fiddling around with it and seeing what size it is here.
Thanks Elaine for taking it. The chalk in my hand makes me look very
professorial, dontcha think? The black suit is a dead give-away, however,
as all profs know not to wear black when they will be wielding chalk.
I'm sure I have white chalk marks all over my pants here -- an occupational hazard.

"Well-behaved women seldom make history." Heh he he! ;-) http://home.planet.nl/~nhavd/images/16.jpg

Mm, such intelligent commentary, Niek.

Do you honestly expect that professional, technically-savvy women haven't seen lingerie models before? It's not a bad picture (though I would bet some copyright violation is involved in it's hosting), but not much of a contribution to the conversational thread.

Surely you can muster the brain cells to do better than that.

Hmrph. And the irritation of tedious and predictable noise on the line lends itself to silly errors. I meant "its hosting", of course.

Dinah, it's one of your members. I think he was trying to be funny about the misbehaving part. Not so, I guess.

Just wanted to say Congrats on a great blog!

Bummer I can't get to any of your individual sites if they're on Blogspot (I'm living in Shanghai at the moment and the damn Gov has blocked Blogger/blogspot) *sigh*

Dinah, thank you for the compliments on the picture, although I don't understand your remark about "some copyright violation involved in its hosting".

I'm sorry if you didn't get my little joke or don't think it's funny. I thought it was dead on with the subtitle of this blog, which holds a lot of truth IMHO.

I forgive you for assuming that I would just post some picture of some "lingerie model" here to make noise on the line. This picture and a couple of other images on my site DO make a contribution to the conversation as does your "lingerie model" in her own weblog all the time.

Every picture tells a story, I encourage you to think again about the statement the "lingerie model" made with her photo shoot and you'll find out why this image is not predictable at all... ;-)

Dinah = Thanks for coming to my aid. Sorry I was out last night and couldn't set things straight earlier. Yes, that's no lingerie model - that's me. Niek seems to think that when studying women in technology, one should be able to examine both sides of the hardware. Halley

Sure, and it's all Niek's fault anyway! ;-)

It's funny, my networks professor made the same "white chalk, black pants comment", "occupational hazard" comment too last week.

Ah.

Yes, unfortunately I looked at the picture from work and thus was not comfortable keeping it on screen long enough to notice (if it's even possible from the angle of the shot) that it was the same person as in the other picture. I figured it was just a random shot from some dude's collection of naughty ladies.

Excuse me for jumping to the conclusion that it was just noise on the line. I only know some of the folks involved in creating this interesting new site and thus didn't recognize Niek as part of the (extended?) gang or as someone likely to have the legal rights to high quality saucy portraiture. Halley, I think you should take full credit for being an excellent lingerie model in addition to your other skills (I may have only seen it for a moment, but it was long enough to note that it was of publication quality). Breadth of experience is very valuable indeed. :)

Interesting that one of the other commenters made the assumption that I'm in any way affliated with misbehaving.net. Not that I'd be opposed to such a thing; far from it, but I have a little social karma to work off just at the moment, it seems...

Thank you Dinah. Talking about "the conversation" aka, what this blog is about. I think you just said it all by mentioning that you "...looked at the picture from work and thus was not comfortable keeping it on screen long enough..."

It's all about double standards in the US on many levels. And I personally think Halley is kicking some serious ass in her weblog, in her posts here and yes, also in her photo shoot with me. She knew what kind of pictures she wanted. They range from serious to sexy. I used my photographic skills to try and capture it all in the little time we had. I think we succeeded and I found out Halley is very talented indeed.

Oh, and I like her too! ;-)

Yep, Niek. We do tend to require a certain level of "check your sexuality at the door" in the workplace here in the U.S.

I'll have to check out your photographic skills in a less sensitive environment sometime.
