Many voices

I’m proud of us. We’ve managed to disagree with each other in public in the very first week of our existence!

So it should be. So may it continue. We are not one voice here. We are eight. And even eight is nowhere near enough.

The eight of us got to talking a day or two ago about what we were going to do if this here blog takes off and people start coming to us for Official Pronouncements on this, that, and the other. The Voice of Women in IT.

Ugh, I said. I have enough trouble with my own voice. I don’t need to co-opt anyone else’s. And on that we seem to have agreed.

I mean, really. We’ve got one college professor and one woman who fled graduate school a burnt-out husk. We’ve got mothers, childfree women, and childless women. We’ve got Linux geeks, Mac geeks, and Windows, er, geeks. (Don’t look at me like that. I’m typing this on my Win2K box.) We’ve got married women, single women, and probably some other kinds too. We’ve got wise elders, spry youngsters, and betwixt-and-betweeners like me. We’ve got a coder or two, a couple of text-wrangling librarian types, tech evangelists, and—and actually I confess I don’t know all my cohorts here yet, so I’ll let them speak for themselves.

And we’re supposed to speak with one voice? Somehow be representative of something? Let me join the chorus in its hearty shout of “Ridiculous!”

So here’s to disagreement. And here’s a reminder that if misbehaving.net is the only woman-authored techblog on your blogroll, you are bloody well missing out. Try our blogroll; it’s a start.

You might want to add www.blogsisters.com to your blogroll. Rumor has it we have a dozen or two tech women types who belong (and blogrolled there) -- a couple or few from this blog I think -- who are definitely worth a read.

Jeneane, I'll add blogsisters...but I also want to make sure that we name people specifically, so if there are people in the tech field from blogsisters who aren't in the sidebar as individuals, I hope you'll (or they) will let me know about them.

I can't get www.blogsisters.com to load...I also can't get blogsisters.blogspot.com to load, which is what I thought the URL was. I'll try again in the morning, and see if it's working.
