We invited 4 women and they couldn't come...

Fortunately the other nine could make it.

Caterina writes about the surprising gender balance of a Nokia-sponsored symposium on the subject of Play:

The invitees were nearly half women (9 women and 11 men), something of an achievement in and of itself, if you've been paying attention to who gets invited to these things. And 4 women were invited who couldn't make it, which, had they been able to attend, would have put women in the majority. Imagine that!

Well done to Nokia's Matt Jones, and his co-organisers at Ludicorp. (Disclosure: Matt Jones is my husband. I think I just wanted to say that ;-)

Yeah

A big company like Nokia would have to watch out to be Politically Correct about equal rights.

Having been to the event, I can say for sure that Nokia had no gender agenda, and that while they sponsored the event, they took no part in steering the invitations.

It's an interesting comment though. Do you think small companies aren't as susceptible to discrimination lawsuits as large companies, and therefore are not "required" to seek gender equality? And that striving to represent women is not seen by large organizations as good in and of itself, but only occurs under duress?
