Amy Smith

There's an inspirational Q&A with mechanical engineer and MacArthur genius Amy Smith on IDonline.com, where she shares her take on product design: "I love connecting things that are not ordinarily connected and realizing that you can come up with a new device that does something completely different."

Interestingly, for someone invested in the production of new devices, she'd love to see us become less consumptive. Her sustainable inventions include water purification technology and a charcoal-making scheme using agricultural waste instead of wood.
