SpeakerWatch: The Radio Edition
Karen Schneider, one of my favorite librarians, has posted this "Tidbit for the BlogHer Dinner Chin-Wag":
To paraphrase a lede from a post on the blog for the new radio program Open Source, the Internet just got male again. Guest gender breakdown for the first week: 7 men, 2 women. Female techies: 0. Women on debut show: 0.

Silly me. I actually thought there was some positive impact from all the discussions in the blogosphere about women bloggers, BlogHer Con and some very supportive comments from the guys.
Then I saw this and this. I read all the comments. Then I read this and this. Again, nothing the comments.
Next, I hopped from female blogger to female blogger looking for the responses or mentions of this stunt. When I came up empty with those who commonly comment on Joi's blog, I looked here. It was obvious that women were mute on this topic. Why? I had a sinking feeling that we have been talking not with supporters, but with politically astute juveniles. Women don't stand a chance being heard amongst a group who feel that spreading the image of female degradation to the widest audience possible is cool, funny and heroic.
I thought with all the strong female voices represented on misbehaving there might be a mention of Anil's practical joke on Stephanie Rosenbloom, the NYT reporter who asked to interview him. I'm so discouraged in this moment that it's difficult to express. We've been kidding ourselves into thinking that women have achieved some level of respect from our blogging brethern.
I was Goatse'd by a 17 year old boy, and it appears that he has many peers in the blogosphere.
